The Central Chapter of Wing Riders of South Africa motorcycle club held an exhibition “show and shine” event at Honda Menlyn on Saturday.
Honda Gold Wings and Valkyries took part in a Concours d’Elegance and a winner and runner-up were awarded beautiful trophies.
Suzette Grobler, Secretary of Wing Riders said these bikes were not only amazing machines to own and ride, but were absolute show-stoppers.
“Wing Riders of South Africa prides itself on riding the best touring bikes ever made,” she said.
A Concours D’ Elegance is a highlight event when members get to really show off their bikes, not only among each other but also to the general public.
Wing Riders of South Africa also prides itself in being the best that bikers can be and set an example for all bikers.
Grobler said the Honda Gold Wing was internationally known as “the bike that makes you smile”.
Motorists on the N1, R21, and N4 were treated to a spectacle as the bikes and trikes from all over Johannesburg, Pretoria and Mpumalanga snaked towards their destination.
Wing Riders and visitors enjoyed much fun during the day including delicious food, and exhibitors of motorcycle and biker accessories made the day even more interesting.
The brand-new Honda Gold Wing, 2018 model, was also on display.
“Motorists should always remember that they are sharing the road with motorcyclists so must always be alert.
Safe riding practices and co-operation by all road users will help to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on our roads.
It is especially important for motorists to understand the safety challenges faced by motorcyclists, such as visibility and size. By raising motorists’ awareness, both drivers and riders will be safer sharing the road,” she said.
