Brooklyn police are investigating a case of assault after a 22-year old student was attacked in an alleged racist incident.

The incident took place on Friday at a nightclub in Hatfield.

In a Twitter thread, the 22-year old explained how she was assaulted by a white woman.

“While I was in the bathroom stall, I heard the doors of the stalls next to mine being banged on, and then my door got banged on, so I said ‘hello?’ hoping that if it was one of my friends looking for me they would recognise my voice and respond.”

“I wash my hands, and I’m looking in the mirror and I see her pointing at me while speaking to her friends. I asked her, ‘sis, you good?’ She says to me ‘No I’m not, you apes are taking up all our space.'”

The woman further explained how she was pushed and punched in the face.

“At this point I’m trying to defend myself but i’m so shook because it’s my first fight and I never thought I’d ever find myself in this situation. I was shook,” she wrote.

She said she was pulled me away by another woman into a bathroom stall who tried to console her and wipe away tears and blood.

The 22-year-old reported the matter to the police, whom she said were not helpful.

“I told them my story and one of them says to me ‘We’ve never had an issue with white girls here. What did you do to her?’ I broke down and she says ‘your tears aren’t going to help you.'”

Weilbach said officers were not allowed to turn away complainants who wanted to open cases.

“The victim is invited to lay a formal complaint against the police if she feels that she was treated unfairly,” she said

“Police officers handed her a medical examination form on Friday evening and the case was opened on Saturday after she consulted a doctor.”

She said the allegations and the circumstances would be investigated internally and disciplinary steps would be taken against the officers if they are found guilty of misconduct.

The alleged victim claims her attacker has made contact with her to try and apologise, but she was not willing to accept it.
