Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said flying squad officers picked up a signal of the hijacked vehicle and traced it to a house in Mamelodi East.
“The hijacked Toyota Conquest is believed to have been operating as a taxi service in Mamelodi and was reported hijacked on Monday evening,” said Mbewe.
The police arrested a 26-year-old man, but his alleged accomplice was still at large.
The driver of the vehicle was allegedly hijacked at gunpoint while he was doing his rounds in Mamelodi.

The arrested suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Mbewe asked members of the public to assist the police with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect still at large.
Mamelodi East police also took into custody other suspects for various crimes on Tuesday.
“The suspects are aged between 25 and 36 years and were arrested in connection with charges of rape, attempted murder, common assault, domestic violence and violating maintenance orders.”
Mbewe congratulated the police for their hard and said officers would continue with operations in Mamelodi.
