NEWSFLASH: Metro cop stabbed to death in east

Police are investigating the circumstance surrounding the killing of a Tshwane metro police constable who was stabbed to death in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria, on Thursday evening.

His identity has not yet been released.

Metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the department was “shocked and greatly saddened” by the loss of the officer.

“We urge anyone who might have witnessed this gruesome incident to contact the nearest SAPS or Tshwane metro police,” Mahamba said.

“We will work very hard with the SAPS to apprehend the culprits,” he said.

Mahamba extended the department’s “heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues”.

Details of his identity and a memorial service were expected to be communicated later.
