The Tshwane metro has offered condolences to the family of a firefighter killed in a Johannesburg blaze last week.

Khathutshelo Muedi’s home was in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria.

Tshwane municipal manager Moeketsi Mosola said: “On behalf of the citizens of the City of Tshwane, I would like to express our deepest condolences at the untimely passing of one of our citizens Muedi.

While his death saddens his family, colleagues, neighbours and friends, may they draw solace and consolation in the knowledge that he died doing what he loved the most – serving others”.

Two other firefighters also died in a bid to extinguish a raging inferno.

Mosola said the Muedi family were preparing to lay him to rest in Vhemebe, Limpopo, this weekend.

“We will continue to keep Khathutshelo’s wife, Fhumulani and their two children in our prayers that God give them strength to cope with this devastating loss,” said Mosola.
