Three robbers were sentenced to a combined 87 years in prison in the Bronkhorstspruit Regional Court.
Lawrence Nemundzivhili (30), Thabo Magabi and Mphafane Mandiza (29) were sentenced to 35 years, 36 years and 16 years for robbery with aggravated circumstances, said Boschkop police spokesperson Yeroboam Mbatsane.
He said the trio had robbed unsuspecting victims of their bank cards and other valuable items.
“They would abduct the victims, tie them to a tree and then take one of them to an ATM and withdraw cash before setting them free.
Mbatsane said the trio were arrested after robbing a senior police official of his service pistol.
“The pistol was later recovered in Atterigeville. The crimes were committed in 2017 at old Pretoria road near Donkerhoek.”
The Boschkop Station Commander Lt Raymond Monyayi praised his officer for a job well done.
He also warned criminals to stay away from the Boschkop policing area or be prepared to rot in jail.
