A suspected house burglar was arrested in Elardus Park, east of Pretoria in the early hours of Thursday.
Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the man was caught with housebreaking equipment.
“The suspect faces charges related to house breaking. Investigations are ongoing and we can’t rule out the fact that the suspect might be linked to related crimes in the area,” he said.
Miller urged residents to keep their windows and doors closed all the time.
“We understand that it’s hot at night but leaving your windows open at night gives criminals the opportunity to break in.”
According to Bull Security, the arrest happened around 02:00.
“We received a call informing us that a suspect was busy breaking into her car in a complex in Elardus Park. Upon arrival, the suspect tried to flee but was apprehended by our reaction officers,” Bull Security said.
The suspect also allegedly told SAPS that he broke into another complex last week in Wingate Park where two bicycles were stolen.
