Crawford College Pretoria student Leo Huan recently competed in the 2018 Atterbury National Piano Competition held at the Atterbury Theatre from 22 to 26 of October.
Leo was one of 41 contestants who was selected nationwide to take part in the competition. The competition consisted of three rounds after which nine finalists were selected to perform in the final concert.
While Leo was performing during the semi-final round, the lights in the theatre suddenly went off due to unexpected load shedding. Leo did not falter.
He continued to complete his performance, in complete darkness, smoothly and fluently with exceptional skill.
“Leo is a star in the darkness,” said Ms Claudine van Breda, the founder of the Atterbury National Piano Competition.
Leo was awarded the 1st place in the 15 years and under category, was winner of the Best Classical Work Performance and went on to receive 3rd place overall.
