Mamelodi police are to step up surprise operations after a recent raid netted nine suspects.
Police spokesperson Captain Michael Mbewe said most of the suspects were arrested for selling liquor without a licence and possession of drugs including cocaine. An undisclosed amount of money was confiscated.
“Operation buya mthetho is aimed at keeping diplomatic areas safe in the Tshwane East cluster and all the 10 police stations took part in the operation in Mamelodi East, visiting taverns and tracking down wanted suspects.
“The operation was a success and we will continue with unannounced raids within our cluster throughout the festive season until next year,” Mbewe said.
The arrested suspects will soon appear in the Mamelodi magistrate’s court.
Mbewe warned criminals to think twice before committing crime, saying operation buya mthetho was looking forward to bring back law and order.
“We will continue with this operation until Mamelodi becomes a crime free zone.”
Mbewe urged residents to call the police at 08600 10111 to report any suspicious activity.
