Another fetus found dumped in dustbin

“Killing and dumping fetuses is nothing less than playing with fire.” These were the words of Sunnyside police spokesperson, Asnath Malatsi, after police discovered a fetus dumped in the dustbin on the corner of Schoeman and Leyds streets in Arcadia on Monday.

Malatsi said that illegal abortion was murder and that those found guilty of committing murder may face life in prison. There are many places that take care of unwanted children such as the Tshwane Home of Hope and New Beginnings.

Malatsi said that killing a child and burying the body in a dustbin was worse than cruelty. “Our children need us as parents to protect them,” she said. She expressed her deep worry about the number of people who used illegal abortion as their family planning option.

“Illegal abortion is not family planning. There are a number of safe, legal methods to prevent pregnancies. Couples or women not wanting their child should visit the public clinics to get more information on family planning,” she said.

She added that those who were frustrated and did not want their unborn child could go to social workers for advice.

The police request that anyone with information regarding the person who dumped the fetus in the dustbin inform them so that the law can take its course. Enquiries: Sunnyside police station on 012-422-3600/662/604.
