Violence again erupted outside the Unisa main campus on Wednesday as students blockaded roads in violation of the court order.

Students aligned to the EFF Student Command are protesting against outsourcing of services by the university.

Motorist are warned to avoid the area as roads are closed and massive traffic interruptions are being experienced since the protest started.

It has confirmed the university last week, obtained an interdict ordering protesters to desist from violence, intimidation and disrupting the academic programme.

“Following acts of intimidation, forceful removal of staff and guests from Unisa premises, violent behaviour and damage to property by the protesting workers and students, management of Unisa obtained an interdict and restraining order against the participants in the protest action,” university spokesperson Martin Ramotshela said earlier.

However, this did not stop the protesters from again embarking on disruptive behaviour at the main campus of Unisa.

More details will follow.
